Five Ways To Have A Food Based Vacation In New Jersey
This is a sponsored post, but all opinions are my own.
If you are a foodie, you know that a vacation is a chance to explore new food specialties and restaurants around the world. When I travel (and even when I don’t), my days typically revolve around where my next meal will be. New Jersey is definitely a foodie state that everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime. It is sometimes known as the “Diner Capital of the World” due to its high number of diners in the state, which is an interesting reason to visit, but on top of that, Trenton and Ocean City in New Jersey are among the top 10 foodie cities in the United States. Ocean City ranks fifth, while Trenton comes in at eighth place. Both of these reasons are just two out of many reasons why New Jersey is a fantastic city to visit if you are a foodie! Today, I want to share with you five of my favorite ways to have a food based vacation while you are visiting New Jersey!
Go on a food tour
Going on a food tour is a fantastic way to not only learn about the food in the area, but it is also a great way to learn about the city and the food scene in general. If you are short on time, a food tour is definitely the way to go – you get to eat what the locals eat, find new restaurants that your guide recommends and on top of that, you get to taste test quite a few dishes and restaurants. It’s really a win-win! There are many food tours in the New Jersey area like Jersey Girls Food Tours, Hoboken Food Tour, and Cape May Food Tours!
Find top restaurants in your area
Finding great restaurants in the New Jersey area is extremely easy, no matter what kind food you are interested in eating. From diners to farm-to-table restaurants, New Jersey has it all! Before I go on vacation, I search blogs, articles and other websites to find the top restaurants in the area. If you go on a food tour, make sure to ask your guide what other restaurants they would recommend! This way, you get a locals opinion compared to just finding tourist spots. Another great tip would be to stay away from tourist traps. I always research the places we go first to make sure that we are not disappointed!
Hire a private chef
I cannot think of anything more amazing than rolling out of bed to a fresh cooked breakfast prepared by your own private chef. Hiring a local private chef is an amazing way to try local dishes in the comfort of your own vacation home! You might be wondering how this is possible since your typical hotel room does not have a full kitchen. Don’t worry, I have you covered!

No matter if you are having your check make breakfast, lunch, or dinner, doing it in the comfort of your own vacation home is priceless!
Eat and drink your way through a local festival
If you are headed to New Jersey this spring or summer, you are in luck! There are so many food festivals coming up in the next few months. In May alone, there are at least thirteen different festivals, all of which are pretty exciting. Chester Food Truck Festival, What’s On Tap? Craft Beer Festival, Annual New Jersey State Chili & Salsa Cook-Off and The St. Anthony’s Greek Festival are just a few of them. Just like taking a food tour, going to a food or beverage festival will help you make the most of your time by squeezing in a lot of different tastes at once.
Do something out of the box
The list for creative, out of the box “foodie events” are never-ending, which is a great thing! From cooking classes to dinner theatres, you will never end up bored in New Jersey. A cooking class is a really nice way to take something that you learned home with you, but a dinner theatre gives you dinner and a show, which is always an added bonus. Do your research and see what sounds most fun to you!
